Developing a Strategy for your Business

Will Abbott Will Abbott has been a partner at Randall & Payne LLP since 2001. An Accredited Mindshop Facilitator (AMSF) he delivers a process to drive growth and profits, tailored to your goals.

In 2011 Will received the Mindshop High Achiever Award from his peers for his work with ambitious business leaders.

We have a different approach to strategic development. It is not about plans or forecasts, it is about giving you the confidence, the skills and the time you need to make the right decisions for the future of your business. But mostly it is about you and your team, which is why our process qualifies for government funding.

We will help you learn how to diagnose the problems, fix them, and then maintain a cycle of improvement.

The development and implementation of a successful strategy requires a number of essential elements:
• A Clear Vision:
Vision need be no more complicated than having a picture of what your business will look like in 3, 5 or even 10 years. Without this you are likely to waste valuable resources fixing the wrong issues, or target the right issues but make the wrong decisions. This is why we always start with the end in mind.
• Focus on Key Issues:
There are many areas that may need to be addressed but the four key areas where you need a robust strategy are:
• People
• Processes
• Product
• Promotion

If you can make improvements in these four important areas it is likely that you will transform your business and achieve your goals. We can help you focus on the right strategy for your business in these areas.
• Make it Measurable:
How will you know if you have achieved your goals, or even made the right steps along the way? Your targets must be measurable, but think about process outcomes not just financial ones. Aiming to have the fastest delivery time is not enough. You need a KPI: '90% of our deliveries reach the customer within 48 hours' is a measurable process outcome. We can help you identify Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and develop systems to measure them.
• Take Action:
You must be tenacious. Your plan will require some big steps to be taken. To achieve your goals the big steps need to be broken down into smaller actions. Aim only to have 2-3 steps at a time and be realistic about what you alone can achieve in the time frame. Delegate actions to other people in the organisation, set deadlines and follow up. We will challenge your action plan to test if it addresses the real issues and is realistic.
• Regular Reviews:
Successful strategies need to be reviewed every 90 days and they evolve as circumstances change. This is not a one off exercise producing a thick 20 page document that is then put in a draw never to see the light of day again. In the current economic climate things are changing regularly and your strategies need the same regular attention. This is why we meet with you every month, or at least every quarter, to keep you on the right track.
• Count On Us:
Nothing will change unless you take that first step. Sometimes things will go wrong - expect that. Every set back is a lesson learned and you will reach your goals only if you keep going. We offer unlimited telephone, email and online support to help you through the tough times.

Our initial 2 hour business strategy review will help you start on your journey by identifying key issues that need to be addressed. Take the first step by contacting us, because if you can’t do that one small thing, you’ll never make the big decisions necessary to transform your business.
