Local accountants Randall and Payne have launched a dedicated tax service, Randall & Payne Tax LLP with new partner, Chris Mattos, taking the helm as their tax expert. Managing Partner, Michael Anthony said: “As a firm we have been advising our clients about tax for over 130 years. We are delighted to welcome Chris to strengthen our team to focus on specialist tax planning for owner managed businesses” Chris has a broad range of tax experience covering the main stream taxes and those with lower profiles, including Research & Development, Stamp Duty Land Tax, and Tax Credits. Chris, who was brought up in Cheltenham, has helped many Gloucestershire businesses for over 13 years to save tax and is the chairman of the local branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT).

Randall & Payne Tax LLP will be specialising in providing tax advice to owner managed businesses, including limited companies, sole traders, partnerships and Limited Liability Partnerships. This may include projects such as LLP conversion, introducing EMI share option schemes or advising on tax efficient financing (e.g. the Enterprise Incentive Scheme). Chris said: “There are many firms that offer tax planning, but what differentiates us is our project management skill. Our aim is to make the implementation of our tax advice as easy as possible and, more importantly, to provide future support.”

A particular specialty of the service will be Environmental Taxes. Chris is a member of the CIOT’s Environmental Taxes Working Group, who provide submissions to the government regarding tax legislation, and is working to help rectify the lack of incentives for owner managed businesses to ‘go green’. Chris has previously been described as the “Tom Good of the Tax World”, due to his chickens, allotment and SMART car.

Chris said “People in Gloucestershire have a real passion for environmental issues – it’s no surprise as it’s such a beautiful place. I believe that more needs to be done to encourage investment through Environmental Taxes. I have certainly seen the benefit to companies that have benefitted from green technology that qualifies for R&D tax credits.”
