Over 30 householders, farmers and local business people turned up to fill Randwick Village Hall for a solar panel seminar hosted by local accountants Randall & Payne LLP and Bristol-based Solarsense UK Ltd.

Tim Watkins of Randall & Payne introduced delegates to the economic factors that affect the benefits of installing solar panels. He illustrated these with figures produced by modeling software that they have developed. Chris Mattos of Randall & Payne worked through the tax liabilities, while John Barker from Randall & Payne went through the financing of solar panel roof projects from a banking perspective.

The audience appreciated the in-depth knowledge and passion of the main speaker, Kerry Burns from Solarsense UK, who shared his breadth of experience in installing and planning roof installations.

Kerry Burns said: “Most people get hung up on the amount of weight they are adding to the roof structure, but in our experience, the key factor when considering roof solar panels is uplift from wind getting under the panels, which is why we always ensure that the pitch and placement is correct.” Solarsense UK Ltd installed Randwick Village Hall’s solar panels which are helping to finance the hall’s running costs.

This is the first in a series of environmental focused seminars from Randall & Payne, the next will be looking at how businesses can reducing waste whilst improving profits as the same time. Chris Mattos said: “People today are facing increasing uncertainty regarding future energy costs, and indeed future energy availability, we need to save energy and use more renewable sources. Solar panels are an excellent opportunity to use dead roof space in a positive way.”
