We were delighted to welcome delegates from across the Gloucestershire business community to our seventh Budget Day event. Representatives from businesses and organisations across a variety of sectors joined us at Gloucester Rugby to watch the Autumn Budget live and digest the key points from the new Budget.
Guests arrived from 1pm for networking and lunch, then got comfortable for a series of presentations. Our Managing Partner, Tim Watkins, welcomed everyone to Kingsholm and introduced Joseph Cox, committee member of our new corporate charity Scoo-B-Doo, who explained from his first-hand experience, how helping to raise funds for the Neonatal unit at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital would impact on the lives of their very tiny patients and their families.
Attendees were given a live demonstration of Receiptbank and IZettle connected to Randall & Payne’s Xero account to show the ease and speed of using cloud accounting software add-ons, delivered by Alex Rolfe and Tom Parcell from our bookkeeping team.
James Geary, Head of Corporate Tax, introduced the Budget Quiz, complete with an anagram round, before giving his Budget predictions ahead of the live coverage.
Following the Chancellor’s speech James gave his initial reaction to what had been proposed and opened it up to the room for comment, as everyone began to pick through the detail of the Budget.
A number of business owners relayed their thoughts to Hayley Mortimer, of BBC Radio Gloucestershire, immediately after the event, which included Steve Barnett of Glevum Security, Mike Snell of Snell (Hydro Design) Ltd and Mike Anthony of MAA Consultancy. Finally, the winners of the Budget quiz were announced as the team named ‘Lemon Cake’ who had taken inspiration from the sweet treats on the table. The raffle winners were then selected at random, who all picked up a variety prizes including; a luxury hamper from Regency Hampers and Gloucester Rugby tickets. The generosity of those on the day raised just over £300 for Scoo-B-Doo which we will to add to the £2000 fundraising pot already accumulated.
It was great to have so many representatives from Gloucestershire businesses joining us for the Autumn Budget, and we’d like to thank everyone for taking part in what we consider a successful event. Over the coming weeks, we will be watching closely to determine what the implications are for our clients.
