Growing up with Randall & Payne – Andy’s decade in the changing world of accountancy

In September, Accounts Manager, Andy Sweet celebrated a decade of working with Randall & Payne.

Having joined the firm in September 2011, Andy has been reflecting on how fast the last ten years has gone…

“I feel like I have grown up with the firm over the past decade!”

His career at Randall & Payne started as a trainee at Rodborough Court in Stroud after completing an Accounting and Financial Management Degree at Gloucestershire University with a 2:1.

Andy quickly progressed through the ranks, from his beginnings as trainee to an accountant, he was promoted to senior, then to assistant manager and finally to manager, and is now managing a team of three. He is also a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Andy commented:

The partners and the senior team are always really supportive and if you work hard it doesn’t go unnoticed.

After the move to our current office at Chargrove House in Shurdington in 2014, when our multiple offices combined into one, Andy observed that this was a very beneficial move for the firm since being open plan and all under one roof allowed for much more staff interaction and understanding of the full services we can offer clients.

During his relatively short accounting career to date, Andy has already seen a lot of change in the profession, going from the cumbersome manual bank reconciliations when he started, to the immediacy and accuracy of cloud accounting software of today. As a result, Andy has found that clients are more interested in what their accounts can tell them.

There has also been the introduction of Making Tax Digital in the last few years and the general shift to digital which has also meant the firm has been able to become paperless, a move which was expedited by the need to work remotely due to the pandemic.

The firm’s rebrand took place in 2017 which saw the creation of our vibrant purple branding with our vision to make our clients’ success our priority, a vision which not only applies to our clients but also our people, which is clearly demonstrated by Andy’s progression in the firm.

Shaun Pegler, Client Director of the Accounts team, and Andy’s line manager for seven of his ten years with the firm explains how highly regarded he is:

Andy is one of the most reliable people I know, always ready to go above and beyond to help his clients and work colleagues. He doesn’t shy away from the task in hand and is willing to help and get stuck into what is needed. He is a very happy, smiling, welcoming person who leads by example, a truly hard working individual that wants to help those around him.
