The winning entry:

The Prosperity Care & Wellbeing offering is tailored to support the current, and ongoing, mental health crisis which has been exacerbated by COVID-19, and has also created numerous challenges during their first year of business which meant having to adapt plans and processes accordingly.

Their team of “wellbeing warriors” who have led the organisation in building their foundations, are not full time employees, but are made up of a range of people who provide a unique and skilled perspective on the provision of care and wellbeing services. They continue to ensure that people being supported are fully involved in all areas of the business, providing constructive challenge and ensuring that services are truly personalised.

As a new organisation Prosperity Care & Wellbeing received support from Gloucestershire Growth Hub, giving them access to online business support, networking events and workshops. They were assigned a Business Navigator who helped with the development of their business plan, including their projected growth.  Their business model includes organisational growth in terms of staff and the number of people supported but is also based on reduction of hours of support for individuals. ‘Grow’ is one of their company values and they see their role as enabling the people they support to have active social lives and friendships, which are not reliant on paid services.

At times of such uncertainty within the care sector the creation of jobs has contributed to economic stability for the individual staff members, but also to the local area. They contribute to a more sustainable care workforce by ensuring that team members are provided with mentoring, support above mandatory training, and they employ and invest in apprentices.

The care sector has a transient workforce, however if staff are valued, paid well and enjoy their job, they are more likely to stay for longer. They have a number of innovative support packages and projects in place for their staff such as; flexible working conditions with a cap on hours worked to ensure a good work/life balance; wellbeing programmes for staff, access to a private psychologist; and clear career development pathways.

Prosperity Care & Wellbeing offer a range of wellbeing events and have a programme which is open to the general public, including fitness and weight loss programmes, tutored art lessons, surf camp, blue water fishing and dance events. They believe that investment in community and connectivity is imperative to address the mental health challenges presented by the pandemic.
