Taking time to recognise the achievements of young entrepreneurs who rarely stop to do so themselves

The Young Business Person of the Year category at the Gloucestershire Live Business Awards looks to recognise business owners or entrepreneurs who are under 35 and have demonstrated a high degree of entrepreneurship, creativity and vision for the future. I caught up with George Tatham-Losh of Move Estate Agents who won the accolade in 2019.

Having worked with George for some time now in providing specialist Tax advice to his clients, it’s obvious to me that he’s very driven and ambitious so it was no surprise to me that he won the Young Business Person of the Year award. We talked a bit about why he entered and what winning meant to him.

George took his business from being a start-up, online only agency to become a business with three branches that covered both Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. Move has become one of the most recognised and respected brands in its field in a relatively short space of time.

George explained that several people had suggested that he should enter the awards so he reviewed the categories and decided Young Business Person suited him best. In sitting down to write his entry he simply told his story and documented his achievements to that point. He admitted that often young entrepreneurs are so focused on getting the next thing done they don’t often take time to celebrate what they have achieved.

Of the ceremony, he commented “You have no idea who has won so it was a real surprise on the night”. He felt that being part of such a well-respected and prestigious awards, which are impartial and judged by a panel of sponsors and business leaders, added extra weight to the achievement.

When I asked about the benefits of entering George said, “The main thing is being associated with such a strong brand as Gloucestershire Live. We appear very highly on page one of Google when people search my name or Move Estate Agents and can see we are associated with a nationally known brand which helps to give you kudos in the market place.”

“When you are a small growing business I think it’s really important to have local recognition supported by the fact it’s all about recommendations and reviews these days”.

If you’re under 35 and have set up a business or had a significant influence in the business, and established a position of sustainable profitability and success, why not tell us about it and get the recognition you and your business deserves!
