Firewalking for Maggie’s Centre Cheltenham to ‘Do something new’

Maggie’s Centre in Cheltenham became our corporate charity in January so we have planned a number of events to help raise money and awareness of this superb cancer charity. One of these events is a charity firewalk to be held in our grounds in November.

‘Do Something New in 2022’ is a staff initiative which was introduced earlier this year to encourage us all to look after our own health and wellbeing and encourage our employees to challenge themselves both inside and outside the workplace, by trying new things, learning new skills and developing as individuals. At least one of our employees, Jo Kline, is planning to take part in the firewalk as her ‘Do Something New’.

I must be mad! I am not an adventurous person, I hold the bags whilst everyone else goes on the rides! But, when we decided to hold a firewalk, I thought why not do it as my ‘Do Something New’? It will definitely push me out of my comfort zone, and I am certain it will be something I never forget. I am truly (nervously) excited about taking part.”

What is a firewalk?

Well quite simply it is the act of walking barefoot over a bed of hot embers. Sounds painful or dangerous? Apparently that is not the case! It has been written that firewalking can improve mental well-being by helping people face their fears and create a better version of themselves. We can’t say that this will be the case but what we will say is that we will create a fun experience, make new memories and help raise money for a worthwhile charity.

The event will take place on Thursday 17th November 2022 here at Chargrove House and a registered firewalk events team will organise everything to ensure everyone’s safety is paramount. A full safety briefing and training is given before anyone is allowed on the coals. The ultimate aim is that participants will have a night to remember for all the right reasons.

When the idea of firewalk was discussed, Anna Mason, Maggie’s Fundraising Manager, was the first to show excitement at trying something new:

I am so pleased that Randall & Payne have agreed to host a firewalk in the their grounds in support of Maggie’s, it’s going to be such a fun evening and an excellent opportunity to get together. I am also super excited to be able to have a go too, this is definitely something new for me”.

You don’t have to come along to face your fears, you can come and support those taking part. Randall & Payne will put on refreshments for both participants and spectators, so let’s make an evening of it!

Whether it’s to try something new, or to have another go, why not join us on November 17th and have fun, push your boundaries and raise money for Maggie’s Centre Cheltenham?

It’s just £15 to take part in the fire walk with a pledge to raise £85 sponsorship for Maggie’s on your own Justgiving page. To join, as an individual or a team, please register here https://maggiescheltfirewalk.eventbrite.co.uk
