Another successful charity quiz… but we don’t talk about the Disney round!

Last Thursday saw the return of our annual charity quiz night held jointly with WSP solicitors, which was supported by 22 teams from the Gloucestershire business community, whose generosity raised a truly fabulous £2400 for our two corporate charities.

It was fantastic that both charities; Maggie’s Centre Cheltenham and Young Gloucestershire, had teams taking part, as Punchline Gloucester, whose team was aptly named “It’s all in the Punchline”. A write up about the quiz featured on the Punchline newsletter the following day with details of the winning team and the runner-up.

Rob Case co-hosted the event, as he has done since it’s inception back in 2009, alongside this year’s quiz master, Dave Harries, ex BBC producer and presenter.

This event, like the original event almost 14 years ago to the day, took place at Kings Stanley Village Hall, and included a chicken and chips supper with celebrity quizmaster, Clive Farahar from BBC Antiques Roadshow! In the intervening years, most were held at Marling School in Stroud, with huge pizzas being the food of choice – this year’s 20-inch pizzas were from Pizzeria Molto-Bene in Quedgeley. The various quiz masters have included other celebrities such as Emma Samms of Dynasty fame, as well as many local BBC presenters such as Steve Knibbs and more recently Faye Hatcher.

Following the event, both Rob and our Managing Partner, Tim Watkins, sent emails round to the staff which included a few comments about a couple of challenging rounds, with everyone’s favourite, Disney, being one such round… it’s not all about Pixar it seems!

Tim said “There were rumblings of discontent in my team over a couple of rounds. Just don’t mention Disney! For those that didn’t come along you missed the biggest pizzas I have seen in quite a while!”

Rob said “Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the event, be it the organisation, participation, or administration. Without your respective input it would not be as successful as it is!”

Anna Mason, Maggie’s Fundraising Manager said “Thank you for another fabulous quiz! The whole evening was brilliant, and you can see how much work everyone put into it. Congratulations and big thanks to everyone involved.”

Finally, we’d like to thank all the individuals and businesses for the generous donations to the raffle. Without these prizes we would not be able to raise so much for our chosen charities. As Anna explained on the night, the funds raised will allow them to help 50 people who come to them for support.
