Our History

Randall & Payne dates back to 1879, when George Payne and John Randall first formed their partnership. In 1964 the business moved into Rodborough Court in Stroud, Gloucestershire, built by Alfred Bucknall of Clifton in 1888 for mill owner Alfred Apperly. This move saved the building from demolition, as it had been up for sale for some time with no potential purchasers. At that time we were expanding rapidly and out-growing our offices Rowcroft, Stroud, next to the Stroud Building Society, so the time was right to move to new offices.

Further expansion in the last few years meant additional offices in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury and at the end of 2013 we made the move to Chargrove House on the Shurdington Road, just on the outskirts of Cheltenham. This move was partly to bring everybody back under one roof, in order both to provide a more complete service to our clients and increase the knowledge and experience of our staff as they learn from each other. It also enables us to better interact with and support the business community, offering the space for client meetings, seminars and networking events, plus informal chats in our coffee bar.

We still provide accountancy, business and tax services and our clients range from private individuals to family-owned businesses and large limited companies, operating in many different industry sectors. We have particular expertise in niche sectors including charities and schools.

Because we are a business ourselves, we understand the challenges involved in making an enterprise succeed. We’re committed to helping you achieve your personal and business goals – a philosophy that guides us in everything we do and one of our reasons for increasing our involvement in the local business community.

At the heart of the way we work is an ongoing dialogue with our clients. By staying in touch and following your progress, we are ideally placed to identify opportunities and risks and provide the right advice, at the right time.
